'Tis I, the mole man.
It's been decided that ESS-CC02, aka "Mauldry", will be the mole experiencing a slightly extended stay with us.
I have it on good authority that Dr. Jorgensborg will be arriving this Wednesday, so the mother and the other two pups will be gone by the weekend. Now's your chance to say goodbye to the rest of the family.
Update: My apologies, but until further notice, no one outside of research can visit the moles. Security can still move freely as needed.

Thank you for your input. I'm sorry it didn't work out how you wanted.

Isaiah
That's good, right?
And Annie doesn't want me to take her shift, but she seems tired lately. [...] Speaking of, how are you? Powers back to normal? I guess I could take your shift.

[Jack]
She's beside herself and I don't know how to reassure her that it'll be alright. I won't be the jackass reading her a research article about how independent moles are. But she's very eager to help, and I think she just needs to see it through until the end. Directly Riddle just won't tolerate more than one superpowered mole staying with us.
I'm fine, and largely nocturnal anyway. Help Raine - he's going to lose his mind if he has to look at another mole. In the meantime, I'll make sure Annie gets a better time slot. She's had an eventful weekend. [...] Congratulations, by the way.
Isack
I've taken his shift. I could Crysta's too. She said she's not really eating? I thought you guys had a fridge.
And thank you. Thank you for coming. I'm sure it meant a lot to Annie.
Isack
Imagine me audibly sighing. That's sort of Crysta's personality. Sometimes Enoch brings her food when he can tell she's forgetting meals. There's absolutely a fridge and I try to stock it with snacks, but... I don't know. You can lead a horse to water etc. But stop trying to weasel your way into a second shift. Annie'd be mad at me if I let you.
Of course. She seems really happy.
Isack
Also, I'm not trying to "weasel" my way into a second shift. Research has been pulling extra hours, and I seem to be one of the only non-Research personnel who has access to the building. Since I can help out, why wouldn't I? I don't understand what the big deal is.
And good, lol. I try.
Isack
We're spreading it out across a dozen of us so no one's overworked. It's been a burden on people with night shifts, but that's easy to fix so they can get some rest and the others can pull their weight. If you come in and offer to take a bunch of shifts, it defeats the purpose of sharing the burden and then you, an emergency doctor, end up overworked. I still really appreciate help from you and Lou, though. Raine can't stand the moles and Annie has a lot going on, so now they can just be taken off the schedule.
You must be doing a good job if she said yes.
Isack
But it's just sitting there, right? I won't be overworked if I'm just reading. Anyway, I'm tapping out at 2 shifts, just Raine and Crysta's.
There are certain other mitigating factorsYeah. I just try not to take anything for granted.Isack
Thank you. I promise if there's an emergency and a shift needs to be covered, I'll ask you. But you've also had a lot going on. Maybe you could use some rest.
I suppose that's a healthy outlook. You sound nervous, though.
Isack
And I'm not nervous.
I just moved almost 3,000 miles and I have no real friends and I think I might be in over my head and it's starting to hit me.Like I said, I'm just trying not to take anything for granted. Fatal relationship error, lol. Ask my parents.Isack
[...] You'll be alright. I don't need to ask your parents. Whatever happens next, you and Annie are more than capable of navigating it.
Isack
I'm lucky I have Annie. [...] Whatever happened with you and Jarrod Fowler, by the way?
Isack
I don't like falling asleep where other people areI enjoy my own bed too much for that. [...] But. Research is full of very passionate people. We all came here because we wanted to help build a solid foundation for Liminal research. It's hard to look away when your job's this interesting. And important.[......] Ah. Well. We actually ended up dating for a couple years after graduation. Then a few clichés later about wanting different things out of life, we split.
Isack
Oh, wow, haha. I called it, at least for a few years. You two went to the same college? Which was…?
Isack
Oh? Did you now? I feel predictable. We ended up at MIT. He went into electrical engineering, I went into genetics. Eventually we just drifted apart. I think he has a kid now.
Isack
And MIT, wow, congrats. As expected of our valedictorian, though.
Isack
Ha. I was just the one who liked talking the most.
So what happened to you after graduation? Between then and now, you're a bit of a mystery.
Isack
Nothing exciting, really. I went back to LA, got a job, got a place. IRIS gave me a scholarship, and that really helped with paying for school. I went to one of the big state schools down there. Then I went to med school (another state school), and did my residency. [...] I pretty much stayed within the same 50-mile radius of where I grew up for the last 13 years, if you can believe it.
Isack
California is nice, though. Better than Texas. And you had family nearby. Honestly, you were smart going to a state school. I got a scholarship to MIT, but that's only half of the financial story.
Following Jarrod wasIsack
Is it weird to say I actually miss Texas sometimes? Do you remember the field trip we took to Hamilton Pool, toward the end of 9th grade, and we had the whole place to ourselves? I didn't appreciate it at the time. I wish I took pictures.
Isack
Ha! Yes! I do. In perfect detail. I was too nervous to swim but I sat on the edge with my feet in the water and scanned the whole place for hours. I can still recall all of the crevices and stalactites dripping from the ceiling like teeth. I wish I were better at capturing color.
Isack
Although I convinced her. That's genuinely amazing. I've forgotten so much about that day already. [...] So you get the location and shape of everything? But not so much the color?
Isack
Yes. It's like... hm. Do you know what a slime mold is?
Isack
Isack
Color takes more focus, but I can sort of sense it. It's not as vivid as using my eyes.
