'Tis I, the mole man.

It's been decided that ESS-CC02, aka "Mauldry", will be the mole experiencing a slightly extended stay with us.

I have it on good authority that Dr. Jorgensborg will be arriving this Wednesday, so the mother and the other two pups will be gone by the weekend. Now's your chance to say goodbye to the rest of the family.

Update: My apologies, but until further notice, no one outside of research can visit the moles. Security can still move freely as needed.

[Evan]
Thank you for your input. I'm sorry it didn't work out how you wanted.

Evan? That's good.

Isaiah
That's good, right?

And Annie doesn't want me to take her shift, but she seems tired lately. [...] Speaking of, how are you? Powers back to normal? I guess I could take your shift.

Evan asked me about what I thought her chances of transferring to the Liminal animal sanctuary were. [...] She's really eager when it comes to those moles.

I've taken his shift. I could Crysta's too. She said she's not really eating? I thought you guys had a fridge.

And thank you. Thank you for coming. I'm sure it meant a lot to Annie.

I tried telling Evan that transferring might not be the best idea, especially if [...] she has other stuff going on. Who knows if she took what I said to heart, though.

Also, I'm not trying to "weasel" my way into a second shift. Research has been pulling extra hours, and I seem to be one of the only non-Research personnel who has access to the building. Since I can help out, why wouldn't I? I don't understand what the big deal is.

And good, lol. I try.

Evan is sleeping in the lab? [...] Who are her people here? If someone else doesn't talk to her, then I'm doing it. How old is she? Like 22?

But it's just sitting there, right? I won't be overworked if I'm just reading. Anyway, I'm tapping out at 2 shifts, just Raine and Crysta's.

There are certain other mitigating factors Yeah. I just try not to take anything for granted.

Oh good. Not as sad as it could have been. [...] But thank you, actually. That was really nice of you, Isaiah, to try to be there for her on top of everything else you're handling.

And I'm not nervous. I just moved almost 3,000 miles and I have no real friends and I think I might be in over my head and it's starting to hit me. Like I said, I'm just trying not to take anything for granted. Fatal relationship error, lol. Ask my parents.

I hope you're not also sleeping in the research lab. [...] What is going on in the Research Division that's fucking up everyone's sleep schedules? Sometimes I message Annie and she's like 'oh, I fell asleep on my couch reading for work.' And I thought Med had bad work-life balance.

I'm lucky I have Annie. [...] Whatever happened with you and Jarrod Fowler, by the way?

Lol. Annie brushes the sleep thing off too. And I get it, but how are you going to do your important work if you’re tired and your neck is busted from sleeping on your tiny couch? […] Anyway, once the moles are gone hopefully you guys get at least three hours of rest back on your schedules.

Oh, wow, haha. I called it, at least for a few years. You two went to the same college? Which was…?

Mmm I wouldn't say predictable. You two just seemed really happy and excited to be around each other. It was actually kind of nice.

And MIT, wow, congrats. As expected of our valedictorian, though.

Good nostalgic memories, right? That's something.

Nothing exciting, really. I went back to LA, got a job, got a place. IRIS gave me a scholarship, and that really helped with paying for school. I went to one of the big state schools down there. Then I went to med school (another state school), and did my residency. [...] I pretty much stayed within the same 50-mile radius of where I grew up for the last 13 years, if you can believe it.

Well, if it works for you it works for you?

Is it weird to say I actually miss Texas sometimes? Do you remember the field trip we took to Hamilton Pool, toward the end of 9th grade, and we had the whole place to ourselves? I didn't appreciate it at the time. I wish I took pictures.

Same. Marriage has many surprising upsides, believe it or not. Although I convinced her.

That's genuinely amazing. I've forgotten so much about that day already. [...] So you get the location and shape of everything? But not so much the color?
