'Tis I, the mole man.

It's been decided that ESS-CC02, aka "Mauldry", will be the mole experiencing a slightly extended stay with us.

I have it on good authority that Dr. Jorgensborg will be arriving this Wednesday, so the mother and the other two pups will be gone by the weekend. ~~Now's your chance to say goodbye to the rest of the family.~~

Update: My apologies, but until further notice, no one outside of research can visit the moles. Security can still move freely as needed.

It was while it lasted. I don't regret it, but [...] I know it just wasn't meant to be. I was a hopeless romantic at that age. Now it's nostalgic memories.

So what happened to you after graduation? Between then and now, you're a bit of a mystery.

Good nostalgic memories, right? That's something.

Nothing exciting, really. I went back to LA, got a job, got a place. IRIS gave me a scholarship, and that really helped with paying for school. I went to one of the big state schools down there. Then I went to med school (another state school), and did my residency. [...] I pretty much stayed within the same 50-mile radius of where I grew up for the last 13 years, if you can believe it.

It's something. I don't date much anymore, to be honest. I was the one who told Jarrod it wasn't going to work, and I've been content ever since.

California is nice, though. Better than Texas. And you had family nearby. Honestly, you were smart going to a state school. I got a scholarship to MIT, but that's only half of the financial story. ~~Following Jarrod was~~

Is it weird to say I actually miss Texas sometimes? Do you remember the field trip we took to Hamilton Pool, toward the end of 9th grade, and we had the whole place to ourselves? I didn't appreciate it at the time. I wish I took pictures.

It does, actually. Marriage baffles me a bit, to be honest, but if anyone can convince me of its worth, it's Annie.

Ha! Yes! I do. In perfect detail. I was too nervous to swim but I sat on the edge with my feet in the water and scanned the whole place for hours. I can still recall all of the crevices and stalactites dripping from the ceiling like teeth. I wish I were better at capturing color.

I sit down in a new space and my awareness expands. It crawls across every surface and into every corner, searching all of the nooks and crannies. The process takes about fifteen to thirty minutes, but it's like my brain slowly touches everything within reach. And after that, I own the space, and nothing can change without me knowing it.

Color takes more focus, but I can sort of sense it. It's not as vivid as using my eyes.

Not really. Most of us are just fine and normal.

I was forced to stay as far away as possible, sure, but it's not unusual. I recall you were knocked out cold for a bit.

I was, and that's not unusual either if I try to use my powers like that.

It's complicated, but [...] I can't "turn off" what my senses take in. Usually I can manage the information coming in, filter it, or make it cooperate. Like a Sondheim song - everything in harmony, even if its extremely dissonant.

When I'm unwell it just clashes and [...] I feel nauseous. I can end up hospitalized if my environment is severely damaged.

So what happens if you can't play people music from your head? I can guess, but tell me the worst case scenario.

Worst case scenario? Single shared mind, conscious and subconscious flip. Then we get stuck like that.
