Either way, Rory and I did make a small impression on the local small business owners, and we come bearing reports.

Their guestbook does not extend beyond 2020, and I was unable to locate an older one. I suppose we don't need to know how often Director Riddle and her wife visit the local romantic getaway, or what the illustrious Cairo Montana was doing there alone, or if Sam Glass is any relation to our own glass, but as that's the information I was able to gather from that particular avenue then I would be remiss if I didn't share it. I even have a few pictures, should you not trust my impeccable judgment on what was worthy of sharing.

Now onto my indecorous crime, I did find a journal of sorts filled with little notes and shorthand. Hard to say what exactly it means without solving the cypher first, but I am happy to recreate the journal pages to the best of my ability for anyone who wants to crack into it. Quite unfortunately, my absorption of information was disrupted by the elder Mrs. Waters, who caught me in the act of snooping, and wouldn't even listen to my very clever excuse that I was just trying to find something to read. I fear this will go on my permanent record.

Well, let's talk about it:

Pros - She could know something about Ernest's social circle and have information on potential powers he absorbed, which could give us pointers to where he might be based on those. Either (A) reuniting Ernestine with her namesake (B) providing the family closure or (C) potentially connecting him to the Burlington Riftland's unique nature.
Cons - Could possibly make Dorothy even snider about liminals in the presence of Ernestine. Jack gets yelled at by an old lady and I feel bad.

Open to hearing more cons.

Far be it from me to discourage some marital espionage, but if Ernest didn't tell his own wife about his powers, I somehow suspect he wouldn't have told his prejudiced mother about them either. That said, I don't see the harm in trying to charm Dorothy.

A very valid con! Although, Ernestine and Dorothy do not seem close, as is. Which, in my opinion, is not always a bad thing re: families. But I recognize that opinions may vary on that.

That's very true. I actually think we should involve Lily before we investigate any further. If she's not interested in our help when it's all laid bare, then I do think we should leave it alone.

Unless Ernest's disappearance is somehow connected to our Riftland's anomalies, in which case, we may not be able to leave it alone.

I doubt she will be. Most of them seem like they've made their peace with it.
