I've confirmed the existence of a secondary type of rift radiation. If you attended the big hole meeting some time back, you may have heard me mention how this secondary radiation appeared before both the pulse event in February and the rift storm in June. Until now, I've been unable to get extant readings of this secondary radiation, which I'll call rift_β radiation for simplicity's sake.

Ernestine Waters is emitting low levels of rift_β radiation. It is not significant enough to cause undue alarm, although of course everyone should continue to follow proper safety procedures when visiting Ernestine. Most likely, she came in contact with something in the Riftlands that's a source for rift_β radiation.

We should find this radiation source. I believe it may help us answer some questions about the pulse and what happened to Ernestine.


BIRD MUSIC APPRECIATION SOCIETY (Noah, Isaiah)

Noah and I have been investigating the melody heard during the pulse and the storm, without much luck. There doesn't appear to be a clear pattern to who heard the melody and when.

Now that the explorers successfully captured a plasmic bird and submitted a recording of its melody, I'd like to revisit this. Noah, you're a music expert. Isaiah, you're monitoring the bird's condition. Maybe we can get it to sing for Noah and glean some further insights.

I've compiled my notes on Ernest Waters. [...] In hindsight, the entire branch on what happened to his daughter is irrelevant, but I can hardly be blamed for worrying about E hyperfocusing on anomalous rift radiation. Ignore it.

My next step is to find any Liminals in Colchester who might have known Ernest. A twenty-year-old woman from Colchester recently got a job at Enodia, and I'm trying to find out more about her. Anyone have ideas on where else to focus the investigation?

I'm still waiting on results regarding their genetic makeup. I'm cautiously optimistic that we could develop an organic warning system, but Noah will be a key asset to interpret the calls and what they mean.

My interest admittedly lies with the possible connection to rift_β radiation. The melody has appeared during the pulse, the storm, and sung by these birds which were found by Ernestine. I suspect Noah has a different priority, but I'm sure we can all work together to find interesting answers to our questions.

β as in beta, with rift_α radiation being the "normal" radiation that comes down to us from the rifts and is responsible for creating Liminals. I admit this classification is a little confusing given that alpha and beta rays already exist, but it just looked more interesting than writing rift_B radiation.

Now that is an idea. Considering we're holding one of their own in our medical building, it may be good for Colchester to see we're not some terrifying government organisation.

Ernestine is our first known example of a living creature emitting rift_β radiation, although there must be more. We have one captured bird to study. Parson suggested getting portable radiation detectors for the explorers to carry the next time they're in the field.

Will the Explorers/Researchers wear hazmat suits when looking for the source of the riftβ radiation? Would its levels be dangerous to Liminals encountering it directly if even encountering it via a human that encountered it is dangerous to us? Sorry if this is a stupid question!
