SCARY STORIES TO TELL IN THE DARK
After MINTY reports ghastly screaming coming from the woods, just beyond the dome late Friday night, the Explorers are sent out on a next-day mission to discover the source. While it is unknown whether the sounds are a human or animal in distress—Liminal or otherwise—or whether this will turn out to be a rescue or discovery operation, what is known is that the vibes coming from the Riftlands are spooky tonight. A thick fog rolls through the forest and birds fall eerily silent.

The Explorer Teams have a relatively uneventful hike out and set up camp in an area scouted by [VOLUNTEER 1]—seems like a safe enough spot to camp overnight!

VIDALIA had the forethought to bring s'mores ingredients (yay!), but [VOLUNTEER 3] had less foresight: they forgot their tent back at the station and wind up having to share with [VOLUNTEER 4]. Meanwhile, [VOLUNTEER 5] remembered to bring along their acoustic guitar—whether this is a fortunate or unfortunate development is up to y'all.

Eventually, MILO suggests they sit around the fire and tell ghost stories as the Riftlands grow dark. [VOLUNTEER 7] scoffs at the idea, because everyone knows ghosts aren't real.

The spooky tales run late, and some of the Explorers turn in for the night while SPARROW and COLE keep watch. [VOLUNTEER 10]'s scary story gets cut short when they hear the screams for themselves—and it sounds an awful lot like the screeching is getting closer.

Those who are still awake sound the alarm and rouse the others in their tents. SAL is grumpy because they assume someone is playing a prank on them, and they poke their head out of their tent just in time to see the CREATURE pounce on them, from seemingly out of nowhere. RHODES deflects the attack, only to have the CREATURE to disappear and reappear on the other side of the camp. But what is it, exactly?

THE CREATURE
Resident nerd smartypants PARSON correctly identifies the animal as Vermont's supposedly-long-extinct Catamount, although this one seems to have developed some Liminal powers of its own. A great comeback story for endangered species everywhere, but a less-great story for our intrepid Explorers, who now have to contend with a very pissed-off mountain lion with Cheshire Cat-like powers, allowing it to disappear and reappear at will, in part or in whole. The CATAMOUNT stands poised to attack again, causing the EXPLORER LEADERS to make the call: TABY suggests they capture it and bring it back for the Researchers to examine and document, while ANNIE suggests they just get some photographic or video evidence and skedaddle—which one your character attempts is up to you.
CATCH THAT CAT!
Please fill out the form below for rolls to determine how your character(s) did. I'll do rolls on Saturday, August 5th at 8 CST.

AFTERMATH
Around sunrise (approximately 5:30AM), after the scuffle with the CATAMOUNT has concluded, the Explorers pack it up and head back to the station. [VOLUNTEER 14] is disappointed—they had really been looking forward to camping!

RORY takes charge of getting any injured people taken care of while NOAH safely leads the way back home.
