GO FOR BAROQUE

Throughout the morning, a small group of workers ready The Hall for tonight’s show. As Rue Ruskin micromanages the placement of the art, an overdressed representative for Artistic License Fine Art Insurance Company by the name of Paxtor Pastor supervises the installation of a temporary security system. He's quite happy to show anyone curious how the system is made up of a number of discs placed around any windows, doors, and other perceived ways of entering and exiting the venue. After all, you're all trustworthy! This is purely a precaution insisted upon by his employers.

By the time evening rolls around, The Hall is ready for her close up. Soft piano music plays overhead, twinkling lights leading guests through the venue to the gallery proper. A few servers wander around with hors d’oeuvres and sparkling cider—and, unfortunately for some, no alcohol. Yet another insurance stipulation. Don’t let that stop you from pregaming (or midgaming, or BYOBing) if that’s the only way to get through an art show, though.

Wandering among the exhibits, art people like Rue Ruskin and Woodrow Blandino of the Liminal Art Restoration Project mingle with artists and art lovers alike, while Paxtor Pastor’s bombastic voice can be heard echoing throughout The Hall every time he corners someone into conversation.

LOOK! ART!

The room is filled with submissions from Enodia’s artsy types, including photographs, paintings, sculptures, textile arts, and even a short animated film with a very overt furry theme by Eustacia Dodge. Creators are by no means required to stand by or even publicly claim their works, but if it strikes a chord with one of these Art People then there’s a good chance they’ll start asking around anyway. Don’t turn away opportunity when it knocks, folks!

Ultimately, though, this exhibition is all about Rue Ruskin showing off her private collection before she donates it. It consists of four pieces of art that had a significant impact on conversations about the Liminal Experience, furthering discussions of acceptance, visibility, and identity. The pieces are placed at the back of the gallery, each given their own space and spotlight, with an informational plaque attached.

Puppet Tears
Minnow Mae Vipperman, fiber manipulation

Three terrifyingly realistic denim puppets whose eyes seem to follow the viewer around the room. Weird, it says the models for these puppets all mysteriously died within a year of each other??

Untitled Nude
Hayes Manwaring, stone creation & manipulation

A stone statue of a nude man seated on a plinth, his head buried in his hands. The last known work from the sculptor, who disappeared without a trace ten years ago.

Cel Portraits
Gage Clutterbuck, cartoon physiology

A series of photographs depicting the artist in full cartoon form in dark or depressing situations, such as digging his own grave, getting mugged, and downing a Mike's Hard Lemonade as he waits for the morning bus.

Sweet Truth
Texas Nguyen, glucokinesis

Several delicate constructs in the shape of everyday foods, like a burger, a bowl of cereal, and a bunch of bananas. Each piece is made entirely out of sugar taken from the foods they depict, and is pretentious as fuck.

A NEW MOVEMENT

Around 9:30 PM, Salvador Roca innocently (and heterosexually) touches the stone statue, and the world finds out what happened to Hayes Manwaring. Ten years ago, the infamously missing sculptor discovered a new aspect to his powers–stone physiology. And it turns out it’s pretty hard to reverse that with a brain also made of stone. Regaining consciousness for the first time in a decade, the naked and confused artist blinks into the spotlight and climbs off his platform.

And that’s when the alarm goes off. As the state of the art security system registers a missing statue, forcefields spring up over every window, door, and perceived weakness in the walls of The Hall.

Paxtor Pastor springs into action, quickly reassuring the gathered guests. “Not to worry, not to worry! We will get this all sorted out in just a moment. Your Director Riddle and I simply need to insert our keys into the–” Cut short, Paxtor pats at his jacket pockets. There are no keys. “Ah, first, does anyone here have the power to break into a car? It also has forcefields, by the way.”

Looks like the party will just have to keep on going for now. While those on the outside work on getting Paxtor’s keys, or maybe just disabling this damn security system altogether, guests try to find a way out of this mess from the inside. Also, someone should probably get Mr. Manwaring some pants.
