Raine is hard to read; he makes Jack feel uneasy. Jack is trying to match Raine's energy—what Jack assumes is nonchalance and a sort of levelness of spirit that Jack will never be able to attain—but this effort results only in Jack feeling like he's about to vibrate out of his skin.
