This all makes Raine wonder if Crysta’s relationship with Gavin had been less adversarial than Enoch’s, the obvious outlier among the three of them in this regard. He also finds Enoch’s analysis of the entire situation a little cynical. Even if he gives Crysta shit for being a troublemaker, he doesn’t think she’s that calculated. If anything, she seems a little lonely to him. But none of that is worth saying right now, when they’re mostly getting along.

“Absolutely,” Raine agrees. “I’ve got to start being nicer to her.”

For reasons he can’t quite put his finger on, he suddenly feels very awkward talking to Enoch about his sister. Before he can think better of it, Raine also picks up one of the glitter-covered sliders and take a bite out of it, hoping it’ll be an entertaining distraction if nothing else.
